DANIEL Z. SHAPIRO, Founding Attorney (1949-2001)


Daniel Z. Shapiro founded Shapiro Law Offices in his hometown of Middletown, Connecticut in 1975 upon his graduation from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.  His practice included Real Estate Law, Business Law, Evictions, Divorces, and Wills and Estates. 
 

Daniel prided himself on his personal service and positive experiences for his clients and their families at affordable prices.  Today we strive to uphold his principles in our practice of law.

DEBORAH D. SHAPIRO, Partner


Deborah D. Shapiro joined her husband at Shapiro Law Offices  in 1984.  Her practice includes Real Estate law, Evictions, Wills and Estates, and Probate work.  Deborah has received numerous awards for her exceptional service and commitment as a Real Estate attorney, including the Outstanding Achievement Award from CATIC and the Achievement of Excellence in Mortgage Closings from Liberty Bank. She is the recipient of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award.
Deborah received her B.A. in 1972 from Connecticut College, where she majored in History with a concentration in Asian and American Histories.  She attended law school at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary from 1973-1975, and transferred to the University of Connecticut School of Law after her marriage and relocation to Connecticut, where she was awarded her J.D. in 1976.  She is admitted to practice in Connecticut.

Deborah worked as the Deputy Elections Attorney in the Secretary of the State’s office from 1976 until 1984.

Deborah is active in the following organizations:

Deborah lives in Middletown, Connecticut.  In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, photography, and world traveling.

SARAH H. SHAPIRO, Partner
   
Sarah H. Shapiro joined her mother at Shapiro Law Offices in 2004, forming the only mother-daughter law practice in Middlesex County.  Her practice includes Divorce Mediation, Real Estate, Evictions, Wills and Estates, and Probate Work, including Conservatorships, Guardianships, and Parental Rights matters.

Sarah received her B.A. in 2001 from the Lynch School of Education at
Boston College, where she majored in Psychology and Human Development (Counseling in Education).  She received her J.D. in 2004 from St. John’s University School of Law
in Queens, New York.  She is admitted to practice in Connecticut.

Sarah completed Mediator training through the 
CT Council for Divorce Mediation’s
attorney-mediator training program in 2005. She has been appointed by the Superior Court to serve as a Special Master, helping litigants and their attorneys resolve disputed divorce cases through Alternative Dispute Resolution with the goal of avoiding trial.  She was recognized as a Connecticut Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in 2011 and 2012.

Sarah is active in the following organizations:

Sarah lives in Middletown, Connecticut, with her husband and son.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, event planning, blogging, sewing, baseball and jogging.

JONATHAN M. SHAPIRO, Partner


Jonathan M. Shapiro joined Shapiro Law Offices as a partner in 2010.  His practice concentrates on corporate transactions, employment matters, and complex commercial and general litigation, as well as in arbitrations and mediations.  He has represented individuals and businesses in a wide variety of matters including contract negotiations, purchase and sale of businesses, risk management, breach of contract actions, non-compete claims, unfair trade practice claims, trade secret misappropriations claims, commercial lease disputes, employment and insurance coverage disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims and product liability claims.  Jonathan regularly serves as "local counsel" for non-Connecticut-based firms that are admitted to practice pro hac vice. 
 

Jonathan is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of Connecticut.  He was recognized as a Connecticut Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in 2010, 2011, and 2012, and was honored by the Fairfield County Business Journal at the 2011 40-Under-40 Awards Dinner. In November 2012, Jonathan was named as a "New Leader in the Law" by the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Jonathan speaks regularly at seminars on a broad range of topics and has authored several articles, including: Panelist, Contract Negotiations, Meeting Planners International-Connecticut River Valley Chapter; Moderator, Going Commando: Lessons from the Field on Starting Your Own Practice, Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section; Panelist, Career Transitions, University of Connecticut School of Law Alumni Association; Panelist, CAPABA Lunar New Year/Networking, Connecticut Asian Pacific Bar Association; Author, "Extra-Territorial Application of Unfair Trade Practice Claims," American Bar Association business Torts Journal; Co-Author, "Hold It! Avoiding Electronic Discovery Disasters with Effective Litigation Holds" (Elizabeth S. Fenton & Diana Rabeh, Reed Smith).

Jonathan is active in the following organizations:

Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan was a senior associate at Day Pitney, LLP in its Stamford, Connecticut office.  He earned his B.A. in History from Boston College in 1998 and his J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2001.

Jonathan lives in Middletown with his wife and children.  In his spare time he enjoys running, biking, reading, and spending time with his family.

KAREN V. CONNOR, Paralegal

Karen V. Connor joined the Shapiro Law Offices team in 2011.  She has worked as a paralegal in Middlesex County for eight years and is a Connecticut Notary Public.  Karen's professional career spans many diverse areas including legal publishing, the medical field, the construction field, and the private sector.

Karen lives in Chester, Connecticut with her husband Dan.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children and family, vacationing at their home in the Outer Banks, getting caught up in a good book, and walks with her dogs.
